Sensex jumps 690 pts intraday, Nifty tops 23,400: 4 factors behind mkt rise
State Bank of India secured new business.
21 Sept 2026 · Business Standard Mkts, ET Stocks
Sensex today: Analysts at SBI Securities said that the gradual decline in crude oil prices over the last four trading sessions has provided some respite to Asian equities.
The analysis
Against that, the stock is -1.1% on the day at ₹948.05, and has returned -8.7% over three months. It sits 23% below its 52-week high. The banks sector has moved -4.0% over the same period, so State Bank of India is running 4.7 points behind its peers.
This is an Input cost / crude event. India imports most of its crude, so input costs pass through to margins downstream and to the rupee. Producers and consumers of the same input move in opposite directions. On the day the stock is -1.1%, so a modest reaction.
For State Bank of India, the question is how much of this is already reflected in the price and how much re-rates the banks peer set alongside it.
Why it matters
- With BSE involved, this carries a regulatory dimension that can outlast the immediate market reaction.
Market context
- The company directly in focus is SBIN.
- Sector exposure: Banks.
