Coal India inks MoU with Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan for coal gasification project

Coal India is in focus in a capex & expansion development.

29 Sept 2026 · Business Standard Mkts

Coal India said that it has executed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan (HURL) for exploring the development of a coal gasification based Urea Production at Sindri, Jharkhand.

Against that, the stock is +0.7% on the day at ₹414.50, and has returned -3.6% over three months. It sits 14% below its 52-week high. The oil & energy sector has moved +1.0% over the same period, so Coal India is running 4.6 points behind its peers.

For Coal India, the question is how much of this is already reflected in the price and how much re-rates the oil & energy peer set alongside it.

  • Capex decisions are a bet on future demand; the market rewards or punishes them on whether the returns look credible.
  • The company directly in focus is COALINDIA.
  • Sector exposure: Oil & Energy.
