Global market cues remain mixed as Asian markets traded mostly lower, while the US stock market ended higher overnight, with the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq posting record closing highs.

Indian equities weakened on Wednesday ahead of the RBI policy decision, with the Sensex losing more than 400 points and the Nifty 50 slipping below 22,700. The decline came amid mixed overseas signals: most Asian markets traded lower even as the S&P 500 and Nasdaq had closed at records in the United States overnight. Titan Company fell 3.9% to Rs 4,373.70, leaving it down 12.1% over one month, 4.3% over three months and 15% below its 52 week high. Asian Paints dropped 1.6% to Rs 2,386.60, and was down 3.8% over one month and 10.8% over three months.

The weakness suggests investors may be reducing risk before clarity on the RBI's stance, which can influence borrowing costs, bond yields and valuations across rate sensitive shares. Titan and the consumer durables sector may be exposed through discretionary demand and financing conditions, while Asian Paints can reflect housing activity and household spending. Cement and construction are also sensitive because project finance and property demand respond to rates; the sector has fallen 7.4% in one month and 10.1% in three months. Higher yields, weak breadth and continued sector underperformance after the decision would support this reading. A broad rebound would weaken it.
