Vedanta set out an expansion in a quarterly results development for Q2 FY27.

· Business Today Mkts

Vedanta Power posted record quarterly power sales in Q2 FY27, driven by stronger plant availability and higher utilisation at key generating assets. The company is also accelerating capacity expansion as rising electricity demand strengthens the outlook for thermal power generation.

Period
Q2 FY27

Vedanta reported movement of 26% and 32% for Q2 FY27. Those are the figures as filed — what moves the price is how they sit against what the market already expected, not their absolute size.

Against that, the stock is -2.8% on the day at ₹254.15, and has returned -5.8% over three months. It sits 68% below its 52-week high, which means a good deal of bad news was already in the price. The power sector has moved -13.4% over the same period, so Vedanta is running 7.6 points ahead of its peers.

This is a Capacity / capex event. Capacity added into a soft cycle compresses returns for the whole sector; added into a tight one it is the cheapest growth available. The cycle position matters more than the announcement. On the day the stock is -2.8%, so the market took notice.

  • Earnings versus expectations is what actually re-rates a stock; the surprise matters more than the absolute number.
  • Capex decisions are a bet on future demand; the market rewards or punishes them on whether the returns look credible.
  • The company directly in focus is VEDL.
  • Sector exposure: Power.
  • The immediate tone of coverage reads positive.
