Indian IT’s Q2 earnings dilemma deepens: More deals but weaker growth and falling pricing power
Infosys set out an expansion in a quarterly results development.
· ET Stocks, Economic Times Markets
As Indian IT firms gear up for their Q2 earnings report, the landscape appears mixed. Strong deal activity persists, yet clients are pushing for higher efficiency, leading to a notable decline in revenue growth. Large IT companies may witness their weakest growth in three years, primarily due to acquisitions rather than organic expansion.
The analysis
Against that, the stock is +0.4% on the day at ₹996.20, and has returned -6.7% over three months. It sits 41% below its 52-week high, which means a good deal of bad news was already in the price. The it sector has moved +1.1% over the same period, so Infosys is running 7.8 points behind its peers.
For Infosys, the question is how much of this is already reflected in the price and how much re-rates the it peer set alongside it.
Why it matters
- Earnings versus expectations is what actually re-rates a stock; the surprise matters more than the absolute number.
