BCGCL begins construction work on ₹25,000 crore coal gasification project
Coal India set out an expansion in an order wins & contracts development.
· BS Companies
Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Ltd (BCGCL), the joint venture of Coal India Ltd (CIL) and BHEL, has started ground construction activities for its Rs 25,000 crore coal gasification project in Odisha, with most of the tenders awarded, its Managing Director Peeyush Kumar said on Thursday.
The analysis
Coal India reported ₹25,000 crore. Those are the figures as filed — what moves the price is how they sit against what the market already expected, not their absolute size.
Against that, the stock is -1.2% on the day at ₹402.55, and has returned -5.5% over three months. It sits 16% below its 52-week high. The metals & mining sector has moved -6.7% over the same period, so Coal India is running 1.2 points ahead of its peers.
For Coal India, the question is how much of this is already reflected in the price and how much re-rates the metals & mining peer set alongside it.
Why it matters
- A large order lengthens revenue visibility, which is what the market pays a premium for in capital-goods and infra names.
Market context
- The company directly in focus is COALINDIA.
- Sector exposure: Metals & Mining, Capital Goods & Engineering, Chemicals.
