Jio shares jump 5%, surpass analyst targets; m-cap tops Rs 13.6 lakh crore as dream run continues

BSE moved higher in an ipo & listings development.

· Business Today Mkts

Jio Platforms share price today: The stock rose 5.12 per cent to hit a high of Rs 1,490 apiece on BSE, taking its gains to 33 per cent over its IPO issue price of Rs 1,119.

BSE reported Rs 13.6 lakh crore, Rs 1,490 and Rs 1,119, with movement of 5%, 33% and 5.12% attached to those lines. Those are the figures as filed — what moves the price is how they sit against what the market already expected, not their absolute size.

Against that, the stock is +1.6% on the day at ₹1,176.60, and has returned -8.7% over three months. It sits 26% below its 52-week high, which means a good deal of bad news was already in the price. The oil & energy sector has moved -4.8% over the same period, so Reliance Industries is running 3.9 points behind its peers.

For Reliance Industries, the question is how much of this is already reflected in the price and how much re-rates the oil & energy peer set alongside it.

  • Listing activity is a read on risk appetite — a hot primary market usually means a confident secondary one.
  • With BSE involved, this carries a regulatory dimension that can outlast the immediate market reaction.
  • In focus: Reliance Industries (Jio) (RELIANCE), in Oil & Energy.
  • Over three months: Reliance Industries (Jio) -8.7% against Oil & Energy -4.8% (3.9 points behind).
  • At least 25% below the 52-week high: Reliance Industries (Jio) (26%).
