· BS Companies
TVS Motor Company plans to increase its electric two-wheeler manufacturing capacity to 80,000 units per month by the end of March 2027 to meet strong demand for electric scooters, according to a senior company official. "Now we are also enhancing the capacity. We are now operating at around 60-65,000 units.
The analysis
TVS Motor reported movement of 20% and -12%. Those are the figures as filed — what moves the price is how they sit against what the market already expected, not their absolute size.
Against that, the stock is +0.9% on the day at ₹4,280.00, and has returned +5.0% over three months. It sits 4% below its 52-week high. The auto sector has moved -5.7% over the same period, so TVS Motor is running 10.7 points ahead of its peers.
This is a Capacity / capex event. Capacity added into a soft cycle compresses returns for the whole sector; added into a tight one it is the cheapest growth available. The cycle position matters more than the announcement. On the day the stock is +0.9%, so a modest reaction.
Why it matters
- The shift to renewables is redrawing which energy names are structural winners versus stranded.
- Capex decisions are a bet on future demand; the market rewards or punishes them on whether the returns look credible.
Market context
- 3 of the 3 companies named are in Auto, so the story reads across that sector rather than for one company.
- On the day, 2 of 3 are higher: TVS Motor leads at +0.9% and Bajaj Auto trails at -1.0%.
- Over three months: TVS Motor +5.0% against Auto -5.7% (10.7 points ahead); Bajaj Auto -8.4% against Auto -5.7% (2.7 points behind); Ather Energy +33.5% against Auto -5.7% (39.2 points ahead).
- Trading well above normal today: TVS Motor at 2.6 times its 20-day average volume.
