Sebi working to delist companies with no economic activity: Chairman
SEBI is in focus.
· Business Standard Mkts
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is working towards removing companies with no economic activity from the stock exchanges, as their continued presence in the listed space poses a potential risk to investors, a top official said. There are a number of listed companies with no economic activity, SEBI chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey said.
The analysis
Because the driver here is macro rather than company-specific, the read-through is to index-level positioning rather than to any single name — correlations tend to rise when the whole market faces the same signal.
Why it matters
- With SEBI involved, this carries a regulatory dimension that can outlast the immediate market reaction.
Market context
- A market-wide development: it reaches beyond any single stock.
