Nifty IT becomes rocket! 3% up; Check TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Mphasis, HCL, Oracle, Tech Mahindra, Coforge performance
Tata Consultancy moved higher in a quarterly results development.
· LiveMint Markets
Nifty IT jumped over 3% in the morning trade, with TCS leading the charge, surging almost 6%. On Thursday, TCS reported Q2 revenue of ₹73,188 crore, up 11.20% year-on-year (YoY). Consolidated net profit rose by 15% YoY to ₹13,884 crore.
The analysis
Tata Consultancy reported ₹73,188 crore and ₹13,884 crore, with movement of 3%, 6% and 15% attached to those lines. Those are the figures as filed — what moves the price is how they sit against what the market already expected, not their absolute size.
Against that, the stock is +4.2% on the day at ₹2,162.50, and has returned +5.5% over three months. It sits 35% below its 52-week high, which means a good deal of bad news was already in the price. The it sector has moved +1.2% over the same period, so Tata Consultancy is running 4.3 points ahead of its peers.
With Tata Consultancy, Infosys and Wipro all implicated, this reads as a IT-level move rather than a company-specific one, which is the more durable kind of signal.
Why it matters
- Earnings versus expectations is what actually re-rates a stock; the surprise matters more than the absolute number.
Market context
- It touches several names at once (TCS, INFY, WIPRO, MPHASIS), which points to a sector-level rather than company-specific driver.
- Sector exposure: IT.
- The immediate tone of coverage reads positive.
