Sebi to review foreign investor rules: What could change for FPIs in Indian markets?
SEBI left its position unchanged in an institutional flows development.
· Business Today Mkts
Sebi Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey said Sebi had held extensive discussions with foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) and other global market participants to understand their concerns and had already addressed several issues relating to market access, settlement and onboarding.
The analysis
Sustained FII or DII direction moves the whole market, not just the names being bought — it sets the tape's tone.
Because the driver here is macro rather than company-specific, the read-through is to index-level positioning rather than to any single name — correlations tend to rise when the whole market faces the same signal.
Why it matters
- With SEBI involved, this carries a regulatory dimension that can outlast the immediate market reaction.
Market context
- A market-wide development: it reaches beyond any single stock.
