Nifty’s comeback or a largecap trap? Anand James decodes breadth, IT and Swiggy

Swiggy moved higher.

· Economic Times Markets

Anand James, Chief Market Strategist at Geojit Investments, says the recovery still looks like a narrow largecap-led bounce, even as the 18% surge in Nifty IT points to the early stages of a possible leadership cycle. He also assesses Swiggy’s rebound prospects and names his top stock ideas for the week.

Swiggy reported movement of 18%. Those are the figures as filed — what moves the price is how they sit against what the market already expected, not their absolute size.

Against that, the stock is +2.0% on the day at ₹180.18, and has returned -40.3% over three months. It sits 57% below its 52-week high, which means a good deal of bad news was already in the price. The hotels & restaurants sector has moved -0.9% over the same period, so Swiggy is running 39.4 points behind its peers.

For Swiggy, the question is how much of this is already reflected in the price and how much re-rates the hotels & restaurants peer set alongside it.

  • In focus: Swiggy (SWIGGY), in Hotels & Restaurants.
  • Over three months: Swiggy -40.3% against Hotels & Restaurants -0.9% (39.4 points behind).
  • At least 25% below the 52-week high: Swiggy (57%).
