Where the market stands

The Nifty 50 goes into the session after a 0.54% decline in the previous one. The Nifty 50 sits in the lowest fifth of its 52-week range, 13.8% below the high.

Foreign institutions were net sellers of ₹3,459 crore in the cash market on 22 October, and domestic institutions net buyers of ₹2,891 crore. Domestic money absorbed the foreign flow, which is why the index moved less than either side's figure would suggest. Over the last 5 sessions foreign institutions were net sellers of ₹7,704 crore.

Market breadth

3 of 25 sectors advanced. Losses outnumbered gains across sectors, so index-level resilience rested on a narrow base. Hotels & Restaurants led and Diversified lagged, a spread of 2.5 points between the two ends of the market.
