Emami moved lower in a quarterly results development for FY27.

· BS Companies

Homegrown FMCG major Emami Ltd on Thursday reported a marginal decline of 1.92 per cent in its Profit After Tax at Rs 145.50 crore for September quarter FY27, on account of elevated input costs and normalisation of the effective tax rate. The company had posted a PAT of Rs 148.35 crore in the July-September period a year ago, according to a regulatory filing from Kolkata-headquartered Emami.

Emami reported ₹145 cr, Rs 145.50 crore and Rs 148.35 crore for FY27, with movement of 2%, 36% and 25% attached to those lines. Those are the figures as filed — what moves the price is how they sit against what the market already expected, not their absolute size.

Against that, the stock is +1.8% on the day at ₹388.05, and has returned -3.5% over three months. It sits 29% below its 52-week high, which means a good deal of bad news was already in the price. The fmcg sector has moved -4.8% over the same period, so Emami is running 1.2 points ahead of its peers.

For Emami, the question is how much of this is already reflected in the price and how much re-rates the fmcg peer set alongside it.

  • Earnings versus expectations is what actually re-rates a stock; the surprise matters more than the absolute number.
  • Tax changes flow through to post-tax earnings and can shift the relative appeal of entire asset classes.
  • In focus: Emami (EMAMILTD), in FMCG.
  • Over three months: Emami -3.5% against FMCG -4.8% (1.2 points ahead).
  • At least 25% below the 52-week high: Emami (29%).
  • Trading well above normal today: Emami at 3.3 times its 20-day average volume.
