The profit surge is real

Q2 revenue
₹1,323.3 croreRevenue from operations rose 335.7% year on year.
Q2 profit after tax
₹136.7 croreProfit after tax rose 334.8% year on year.
Operating EBITDA margin
14.9%The margin was 15% in the year-earlier quarter.

Netweb Technologies on Saturday reported a 334.8% year-on-year increase in second-quarter profit after tax to ₹136.7 crore, as revenue from operations rose 335.7% to ₹1,323.3 crore. Artificial-intelligence systems produced ₹773.1 crore, or 58.4% of quarterly revenue, after growing 1,068.1%. The results were approved on October 24, when Indian equity markets were closed.

The scale-up did not dilute operating profitability. Operating earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation rose 334% to ₹197.3 crore, while the margin eased only 6 basis points to 14.9%. First-half profit of ₹222 crore exceeded the ₹205.8 crore earned in the whole of the previous financial year.

The evidence therefore supports Netweb’s claim that demand for AI computing systems has moved beyond a small pilot business. The harder investor question is whether the company can turn that demand into cash without repeatedly raising capital. On the first-half figures, it has not done so yet.

The earnings surge is substantial, but the cash-flow statement makes working-capital discipline the more important test from here.

Netweb’s growth is now easier to see in profit than in cash.

Growth consumed cash

H1 operating cash flow
Negative ₹639.1 croreProfit after tax for the same period was ₹222 crore.
September inventory
₹1,930.7 croreInventory was ₹804.8 crore at March 31, 2026.
QIP proceeds used for working capital
₹766.7 croreThe company raised ₹1,200 crore through the August placement.

Netweb’s growth is now easier to see in profit than in cash. The company used ₹639.1 crore in operating activities during the first half, compared with reported profit after tax of ₹222 crore. Inventory increased by ₹1,125.8 crore during the six months and stood at ₹1,930.7 crore on September 30.

That inventory build explains why Netweb raised ₹1,200 crore through a qualified institutional placement in August. The company allotted 25,05,219 new shares at ₹4,790 each. By September 30, it had already used ₹766.7 crore of the proceeds for working-capital requirements, while ₹203.8 crore allocated to that purpose remained unused.

Management’s preferred measure shows a modest net-cash position of ₹13.6 crore. That provides balance-sheet protection, but it does not remove the economic cost. Existing owners accepted dilution of more than 4% so Netweb could finance components and systems before collecting from customers. Sustained growth will require those inventories to be delivered, billed and collected promptly.

Netweb used most of its new equity funding to support working capital, rather than converting reported profit into operating cash.

Visibility comes with concentration

Order book
₹2,629 croreConfirmed orders pending execution or billing at September 30.
Additional L1 bids
₹652.5 croreNetweb was selected as preferred vendor, but formal orders were not yet received.
Top-five customer share
76.5%The comparable share was 62.2% in FY26.

Netweb reported a confirmed order book of ₹2,629 crore, exceeding its first-half revenue of ₹2,143 crore. It also disclosed ₹652.5 crore of tenders where it was the lowest qualified bidder or preferred vendor, although purchase orders had not yet been issued. An active pipeline of ₹11,151.8 crore is less certain because it comprises opportunities still being pursued.

The order book supports further revenue, but customer concentration has risen sharply. Netweb’s five largest customers produced 76.5% of first-half revenue, up from 62.2% in FY26. Its 10 largest accounted for 85.2%, against 76.4% in the previous year. A delayed deployment or acceptance by one large customer can therefore hold up a meaningful amount of revenue and cash.

Inventory days increased to 117 at September 30 from 86 in March, even as receivable days fell to 62 from 86. The lower receivable period is encouraging. The inventory build is the larger risk because computing hardware can lose value quickly when chips and system specifications change.

Large orders provide visibility, but rising customer concentration increases the effect of any delayed delivery, acceptance or payment.

The countercase is stronger execution

Cash-conversion cycle
94 daysThe cycle was 84 days at March 31, 2026.
Repeat-customer revenue
94.4%Measured as a share of first-half revenue from operations, excluding other operating revenue.
QIP proceeds unutilised
₹425.6 croreBalance remaining at September 30 across disclosed uses.

The best case against this caution is that working capital is rising because confirmed demand is rising faster. Netweb preserved a 14.9% operating margin while quarterly revenue increased more than fourfold. Receivable days fell by 24 days from March, and the company said 94.4% of first-half revenue came from repeat customers. Those figures argue against a simple deterioration in collections or indiscriminate customer acquisition.

The balance sheet also has room. Net worth rose to ₹2,104.1 crore after the placement, and ₹425.6 crore of QIP proceeds remained unutilised at September 30. The confirmed order book, unlike the pipeline, represents purchase orders awaiting execution or billing. Building inventory ahead of those deliveries can therefore be rational.

That case changes the conclusion from negative to mixed. Equity funding has reduced immediate solvency risk and enabled rapid execution. But it does not prove that the expansion is self-financing. A business can report high margins and still destroy value if each additional rupee of sales requires too much inventory or fresh shareholder capital.

The strongest counterargument is that Netweb deliberately funded a confirmed expansion while preserving margins and shortening collection times.

Cash conversion is the deciding test

Top-10 customer share
85.2%The comparable share was 76.4% in FY26.
First-half profit after tax
₹222 croreThis exceeded full-year FY26 profit of ₹205.8 crore.
First-half revenue
₹2,143 croreRevenue from operations rose 254.2% year on year.

Netweb has demonstrated demand, execution and stable margins. It has not yet demonstrated that its current growth rate can fund itself. The company’s first-half operating cash deficit was almost three times its reported profit, while most of the August equity raise had already been directed towards working capital by September.

The likelier explanation is that Netweb is carrying components and finished systems for a much larger order base, rather than facing an immediate collection problem. Receivable days support that reading. Yet the rising share of revenue from a handful of customers means delivery schedules and acceptance milestones can still produce volatile cash flow.

Investors therefore need more than another large profit increase. The December-quarter filing should show whether inventory days begin to fall from 117, whether the ₹2,629 crore order book converts into billed revenue, and whether operating cash flow moves towards reported profit. If inventory keeps rising while more QIP cash is consumed, the expansion will remain dependent on external capital. If cash conversion improves, the first-half outflow will look like a temporary cost of scaling.

The next results must show inventory and operating cash improving without sacrificing revenue growth or margins.
